  • Initial Investment: The cost of a typical residential On-Grid solar installation in India ranges from Rs.60,000 to Rs.75,000 per kilowatt (KW), depending on the structure type, material quality and technology used.
  • Government Subsidy: The Government of India is providing PM MUFT BIJLIYOJANASCHEMEsince January 2024. The subsidy of Rs.30,000/- KW upto 2KW plant and Rs.18,000/KW for additional capacity upto 3KW. This subsidy amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary account after the successful installation of On-Grid residential solar plant and approval from the DISCOM.
  • Energy Savings: A 5KW system can generate about 20-25 units of electricity daily, which can cover almost all of a household’s energy needs. Assuming an electricity cost of Rs.9 per unit, we can expect a saving of Rs.5,000-6,000 per month (Approximately).
  • PaybackPeriod:With these savings, the payback period for a non-subsidy solar investment is typically 5-6 years and considering the subsidy it will be around 4-5 years depending on your electricity consumption.
  • Return on Investment: After the payback period, the energy you generate is essentially free, leading to significant long-term savings. Over the 25-year life span of the system, you can expect additional savings of Rs.12-14 lakhs for a typical 5KW plant, making it a wiser investment.

Solar Rooftop Installation Requirements: Floor Space Considerations
